Lockheed
XR6O-1 Constitution
A 1:100th scale in-house Lockheed model of the
giant Constitution airliner/military transport
that first flew in November 1946. It is
made of the phenolic material that Lockheed
regularly used for its models and is in its
original finish. Originally conceived in the
pre-war years as a commercial transport, the
Constitution’s subsequent development was
sponsored by the US Navy. It was a handsome
looking machine but lacking appropriate engines,
the aircraft was under-powered and only two were
ever built. These served for a very short
time with the Navy before being scrapped. |
