Aviation Models Model Composition Description Dimensions Condition Price 1/24 Douglas Aircraft DC-5 / R3D-2 /
C-110 Air Transport
Here is a rare opportunity to own a very rare In-House Douglas
Factory Model that was produced in the late 1930's and early
1940's in very limited numbers. This is one of three that are
known to exist.
Fuselage Length is 25 inches long, with a Wingspan of 31
inches, making the model 1/24 scale.
$2,700 USD - I will consider
all reasonable offers or trade for wind tunnel models. Model
is located in Los Angeles, California
All wood model created by the Douglas in-house model shop. The
propellers are painted metal and the new base is painted solid
aluminum and weighs two pounds.
The Douglas DC-5 (Douglas Commercial Model
5) was a 16-to-22-seat, twin-engine propeller aircraft
intended for shorter routes than the Douglas DC-3 or Douglas
DC-4. By the time it entered commercial service in 1940, many
airlines were canceling orders for aircraft. Consequently,
only five civilian DC-5s were built. With the Douglas Aircraft
Company already converting to World War II military
production, the DC-5 was soon overtaken by world events,
although a limited number of military variants (R3D-2 and the
C-110) were also produced.
Condition: The model is all in excellent all original
condition, no repairs. There is a little hanger rash to the
trailing edges of the elevator, right wingtip, and a little
paint wear on the nose. The original wood base was missing
when I acquired the model and a new solid aluminum base has
been mated with the original vertical support post.
